Fundraiser aims to help disabled residents

Ryan Thorne of the Idaho Mountain Express newspaper writes:

The Swiftsure Ranch Therapeutic Equestrian Center near Bellevue has offered physically and mentally challenged residents of all ages the chance to explore the outdoors and feel the love of a local horse since 2012, and its upcoming Blazing Pumpkins fundraiser will give Blaine County citizens the chance to help those services continue.

“Our mission is to encourage the physical and mental well-being of our riders who have disabilities,” Swiftsure Ranch Public Relations Coordinator Lacey Heward said.

Visitors will be charged $5 per person or $20 per car to attend the event Friday, Oct. 16, from 4-8 p.m. at the 191-acre Swiftsure Ranch south of Bellevue, with funds from the entry fees to support the ranch’s services.

Guests can try their hand at horse riding along the ranch’s Sensory Trail, Heward said, with sensory stations dotting the trail, allowing riders the opportunity to experience sensations associated with sight, touch, smell and sound.

“There are different stations that basically give the rider a different experience with a different sense,” Heward said.
