Whoa, this spring has been a bit weird, at least weather-wise. March, which seemed warmer than average, with many days of bright blue skies, really didn’t live up to the whole “in like a lion, out like a lamb” saying. And then April rolled in with a nice warm welcome and quickly changed to cold days filled with precipitation. So, maybe April was doing its best to hold true with “April showers bring May flowers.” While April wasn’t exactly what we expected and we had many days of riding the arena, it did bring us some moisture that we were in desperate need of. Let’s hope it’ll help hold up against the drought! But, because of April’s moisture, the ranch is starting to green up and we’re enjoying days out on the sensory trail with our lessons. Fresh air, horseback riding, and great company – really, what more could you ask for?
April also brought us the best delivery we’ve received in quite some time – our custom-made wheelchair-accessible carriage from Bennington Carriages of England. We held a celebratory ribbon-cutting and extended the biggest of thank you’s to the Spur Foundation and Heart of Gold Fund. You can read more about the carriage and ribbon-cutting day by clicking here. It was truly a day of excitement and the beginning of a new chapter for the ranch!
May also brings us the (almost famous) Swiftsure Derby! The big (virtual) horse race for strength, freedom, and connection. Racing to secure funds for the herd. Did you know that on average, it costs $4,000 per horse each year to keep the herd in tip-top shape for our lessons? That’s where this fundraising race comes in—it helps offset the costs so we can continue to grow and evolve in many different ways. The race wrapped up on May 7th! It was a pretty successful event, raising $25,000 towards our annual goal.
This month you’re also going to want to keep your eye out for our annual Cowboy Ball tickets to go on sale! The Cowboy Ball is a night full of dancing, mingling, and raising critical funds for a great cause. So, get those cowboy and cowgirl duds dusted off and brush up on those line dancing skills and we’ll be partying the night away on July 14th.
